I always have a harder time choosing gifts for young men than I do for women. Anyways, they were thrilled with this item (beats a crappy coffee mug anyday!). I ordered one too many and thus it went to my daughter.so I got to use it, too. I liked it so much I am here to buy 2 more for myself and my son. I agree that the instructions are pretty much useless. I just plugged it in an pasted mp3 files into it from my files in windows explorer. Windows recognized it right away and automatically installed it (there is also a cd for drivers on win 98). No biggie. I am certainly not whatcha call a techie. I guess if you have no program at all to change.wav files from your cds into mp3s then you would have a problem, but you can get these free shareware type programs on the internet. I am not sure if that was from my files, from the flash based media, or this player in particular. It is about 3 inches long and one inch wide. It is a little thick for only 128 mb, but that is likely because of the battery compartment (it takes one AAA) The big button on the front of the thing is fake, it doesn't do anything. Click the button to do the first thing (e.g., step back, step forward, pause) and push and hold the button to do the other function. Hold the stop button to turn it off. It plugs directly into your usb port. I realize it only holds about 30 songs, but it is cheap and simple. We old people used to make cassette tapes of our favorite songs so we could take them on the fly. This is the same sort of thing. It is simple to plug in and put on a few songs for the car ride to work (you'll of course need some device to plug it into your car.corded cassette, fm transmitter, you know the items) or for a workout, walk, take to the beach, or keep your kids occupied for a little while. Simple to change songs when you want.it is just like putting them in a file on your computer.

Then if you drop it in the ocean or your kid drops it in his milkshake or whatever, you wont go crazy that they ruined it. I don't even like carrying my ipod too many places, scared I might drop it or get sand in it. The battery is a regular old battery, no waiting for recharges. This is no 300 dollar item, but it is a great little take along you won't be afraid to actually bang around.I bought one of these when it first came out, 9 or 10 years ago, and used it almost everyday when I worked out. Worked great for down loaded talk shows and music. Then a couple months ago I left it in my pocket and it got washed and dried. I loved this thing, it works great for exercise when anything more complex is just too much Lately I used it to play old time radio shows in my car since my stereo has a jack for it. So I found some new in package ones here and on ebay. So far I have 4, only one of which I opened. Let's see if this one will last another ten years. So I bought it, since other players will back up to the beginning of the track, which is useless for an audio book, unless you enjoy hearing the beginning of a chapter again. Instructions are vague, only 3 buttons to work with. I wish it had a display, that's why only 4 stars. No EQ, so I wouldn't recommend for audiophiles. But great for audio books. Oh, Coby also includes a CD rom for the driver, so you can use this with Windows 98.One caveat is that many songs off newer cd's or purchased online are in the mp4 format. This player won't play them unless they are converted to the MP3 format. However, Apples iTunes can convert them to MP3, but if you use a different software on your computer you should make sure it can do this.If you rip cd's into mp3 format, that's only 3 cd's. Most new usb stick mp3 players have at least 4gb of memory, enough for 100 cd's. That's quite a difference. It says it is compatible, but it's NOT. I tried 3 different ways to load music on this item and it would take maybe 3 out of 25.

However, the songs I loaded, about 800 of them, do NOT list under the ARTIST, ALBUM or GENRE headings. What this means, is in order to listen to an album, somewhere in the middle of the song list of 800 songs, you need to SCROLL THRU about 400 songs, in order to find the album. You are suppose to go to the MENU, select MUSIC, then select ALBUM, and then listen to your album. But that doesn't work either, with this device. What a disappointment. In fact, this unit DID NOT WORK out of the box. I even DELETED ALL THE SONGS the first time I programed music into it, and started again, believing that perhaps I put too many songs on in the flash drive, for the unit to have memory to spare for the catagories. However, that was NOT the case. Both times I programmed this, the categories did NOT work Even tho this is a cheap unit, it SHOULD have functioning software included, so the COBY works the way its advertised to work. It SHOULD allow you to access your music, in such a way, that you don't spend more time locating the songs you wish to play in a list of 800 songs, then you do LISTENING to the song. (And if you want to hear a song, in the middle of the 800 song list, its almost certain that it will take MORE TIME to located the song, than it does to PLACE the song. I had the same problem, with the ECLIPSE. Perhaps this is because in the cheapest MP3 units, you cant put the songs in WMP format, without screwing up the way the software allocates the subtitles, and catagories, pinned on the music. A good unit for a cheap MP3, is the PYRUS touch screen. For the price it is a great deal. I wanted it to use on my walks and is perfect, I can even listen to the radio on my morning walks. Rechargeable Battery Get up to eight hours of music playback on a single charge with the integrated rechargeable Li-Poly battery. Get to exactly what you're after, right when you need it. Enjoy Your Media The Coby MP620 is ready for your favorite music, movies, and photos, so you can take them anywhere--whether it's for your own enjoyment, or a little sharing. If your music files contain ID3 tags, you will be able to view your tracks by Artist, Album, or Genre. Create a quick playlist on the fly, enjoy random playback, repeat mode, and more. For the lyrics freaks, LRC files are also supported, so you can view the words (including synchronized timing display). Use the photo browser to explore and share your photo files. JPEG and BMP formats are supported, and the slideshow function makes a great way to share with friends. Support is offered for video in the MTV format, at 128x128 pixel resolution, and 25 fps (frames per second). Basic controls--e.g., fast-forward, rewind, scan, etc.--are provided for your convenience. Integrated FM Radio Using the headphones and an antenna, the MP620 delivers FM radio, so you can check up on the news or your favorite programming on the go. Preset your favorit stations for quick access, or have the MP60 do a quick scan of local stations. Equalizer Presets To further dial in your sound, pick an EQ preset that works with whatever you're listening to: Normal, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz, or Bass. Text Files Read text files on your screen, including eBooks in the TXT format. You can also choose to handle the conversion in your own preferred way, and simply drag-and-drop files onto the device like any other system folder. USB 2.0 This device uses USB 2.0 for speedy file transfers when syncing. What's in the Box 4GB Coby MP620 (Red), Stereo Earphones, USB Cable, User's Manual To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Please try again later. Gene A. Townsend 5.0 out of 5 stars This is my 4th MP-3 player, and by far the best I've owned. I hesitate to review it, since there are already so many reviews. Personally, I have no use for it yet, but may in the future. I hope this clears things up for people who can't find the software for converting files to the correct format. 2. It works just great using your Windows Explorer directly without the media manager software. Simply create folders named any way you choose, in a logical manner so that you can locate your music easily. My only negative criticism is that it's shape is different from my other players, so I will need to get a new carrying case to fit it. I would have gladly paid a little more if it came with a good carrying case. Buy this mp3 player!Important features (for me) are that it will remember where it left off when turned off, it will play files in alpha-numeric order, and I can fast forward or fast reverse through a file. It also has an equalizer for setting the tone. You can choose to have it play files in random order and to repeat files also. Instead you are taken immediately into the first folder and you must then back out using the little menu (M) button to see the menu of other folders. We use this for audio Spanish lessons and have 3 different courses, each in its own folder, so I need to know this oddity in order to navigate into one course or another. If you visit the Coby site, you can download a PDF manual before you buy. They seem like a nice company. We like these little players so much, we bought 2 (different colors, of course). We were surprised at how small they were - good looking too. Gracias, Coby, por un excelente producto.I received it, and programmed it.
